Kidnappings
Kidnapping is the taking away of a person or child against their will, usually to hold the person in confinement without legal authority or permission from the guardian. Child abduction usually refers to the taking of a child without the parent’s consent but with the consent of the child. Tactics such as bribery and temptation were used to lure the child into the kidnapper’s care. Sometimes the kidnapper would lie to a child and tell them that their parents had sent for them. Although kidnapping didn’t originate in the 1920s, the 20th century became the first century where kidnapping for ransom was practiced. Kidnappings were not nearly as common in the 19th century as they are now, and it wasn’t until the 21st century that child abductions were seen almost every day. Also, at that time parents were not as cautious as they are now. Many of the children abducted were results of leaving a child out side of a store while the parent shopped or leaving a child at home alone while the parent was at work. Both of these were commonly practiced during this time.
